Around Taree

Ten minutes north of Taree and just off the highway is the tranquil seaside village of Harrington which sits at the northern mouth of the Manning River. Harrington is a picturesque little village with walks along the breakwall and the inlet or take a stroll or surf at beautiful Crowdy Head beach.

In 1894 a long breakwall was built to protect the entry channel for shipping, which now it serves as a scenic walk and great fishing location. The nearby Pilot Hill Lookout provides expansive views over the river delta and the graves on the hill bear witness to the pilots whose task was to guide the boats over the bar.

There are plenty of eateries to choose from or take a picnic and sit in the park while watching the pelicans.

Old Bar

The vibrant seaside villages of Old Bar and Manning Point provide access to the Manning River and ocean, attracting visitors throughout the year seeking sun, surf and sand. If it’s a coastal escape you’re after, you’ve come to the right place as these picturesque villages will allow you to relax, unwind and soak up our laid-back surfing culture. Old Bar Beach is the closest surfing beach to Taree and just a 10-minute drive from the Pacific Highway. This location is perfect for fishing, boating and water sports for the whole family. The Old Bar Beach Festival is also held each October long weekend, which attracts thousands of visitors to the region for two action-packed days of festivities.

The Manning River

The Manning River’s 150 kilometres of navigable waterways and array of boat launching facilities are perfect for punters to launch their boats and hit the water.

Whether you’re a beginner or expert, there is plenty of room to enjoy water-skiing, tubing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding and more!
